I am really excited to be a part of this not only for doing some new sketch cards, but because this is a great little company fighting to survive in the comic world and they hold their own pretty well and I want to see them around for a very long time. Down in Atlanta on Sunday, Nov.6th, it was the ATLANTA COMIC CONVENTION one-day show. Had a lot of fun. My daughter was able to come with us and she was excited to meet Batman so she colored him a picture and when he showed up she gave it to him and was pretty happy. She's such a hoot. She kept coloring pictures and would go over and give it to random people saying she colored them something. Half of them didnt know how to respond. She also put her art up on the wall like her daddy and wanted to sell her pictures too. When I asked her for how much, at first she said, $300, but then it went down to only $1. She did end up selling one to my buddy. Only three years old and already selling her artwork. Im so proud of her. I also got to do a sketch for Terry Maltos, who is actually the art agent for Mr. AL RIO! He had a list of different classic cartoon characters and I got to pick whichever one I wanted to draw so I chose BRAK from the Space Ghost cartoons/show and I made a zombie/werewolf BRAK. Over all it was a good show and having my Nikki and my daughter there def. made the show that much more great.

SPOOKY EMPIRE 2011 REVIEW - (OCT.7-9TH)

So I dont really want to bore with a long drawn out explanation of a series of good and bad events so I'll just summarize the show.

Unfortunately, though I was able to make back the table and the hotel room for the three days, I did still lose money on the show. Yes, I was able to reach new people with my art, but the type of crowds that attend horror conventions are a lot different from the kind that attend comic book cons.

I dont want to come off like I had a bad time. Actually it was far from it. Our table was right next to a really nice lady that worked on the haunted house attractions for Universal Studios and our other neighbor, Joel Robinson, whom was very nice too. I got to see Jake Busey come by and even had Tom Savini mistaken my graphic novel, RIPPED with some new book Stephen King is making about time travel. :) Had the Fine Print Shoppe, which is a local screen printing place in Orlando, ask me and a few other artists to come up with a design that they could have people buy and get screen printed right on the spot, end up selling eleven of my shirt design! While also getting the Chiodo Brothers to sign my Killer Klowns print AND having Grant Cramer (Mike from Killer Klowns From Outer Space) and Suzanne Snyder (Debbie from Killer Klowns) stop by my table at the end of the show and both pick one up was def. a surprise!

So would I ever setup again at SPOOKY EMPIRE? Maybe. (Hopefully the next time it wont be raining all weekend)

Would I ever attend the show just to go? Absolutely!

It was def. a fun show. Yes, the crowds were different, but everyone there were still die hard fans that loved horror. Overall I give the show a B-

Hands down not only one of my favorite movies of all time, it's also one of my top favorite John Carpenter films. So while Im still working on the colors for the Killer Klown print, I thought I'd post this pretty "THING". or as cult fans would call it: The Norris Creature.

*Artist notes: I wanted to play with the angles here a little bit. I felt like of all the photos I found off the fan sites and from watching the movie, it wouldn't make the piece stand out if I went with the same angle Carpenter went with in the film. And most of the fan art I've ever seen for the film that showed the Norris Creature all mainly used the same photos.

DRAGONCON RECAP...

Sorry for the delay in posting about the show. After returning home I was exhausted and needed a few days to recover. Here is my review of DragonCon 2011

This year marked the 25th Anniversary of DragonCon and my third year actually getting to setup at the show. I was extremely excited, yet nervous worring about my placement in the show and the cancelation of a few big named guests. When Nikki and I arrived to the show and after jumping around from hotel to hotel we located our badges and our table. Led by Thom Trainer, for whom Ive known a few years now, the staff in charge of artist alley were nothing but awesome and nice!

Our placement in the show was great! We were right in the middle of the show and surrounded by some really talented people. To our left was Michael Gordon and his crew with their comic Tiki Zombie. They had a really cool setup of a tiki umbrella and grass skirts bordering around their entire table. It was very clever and very much an eye drawer. They being next to us worked out great because Bobby Nash, the writer of many books and also the writer of my current graphic novel, BLOODY OLDE ENGLUND, is really good friends with them so he was next to our booths the entire show hanging out and signing.

He's a very talented artist and all around nice guy. We actually got to talking about the sketch cards he does and it turns out he's done hundreds of sketch cards for Upperdeck, Unstoppable cards, and many other companies. He even gave me some contacts that I talked to and now have a deal in place to work on a new card set coming up in October!

Unfortunately though, when you do shows, you sometimes get some haters and that was def. the case of the guys next to us on our right hand side. I got a chance to check out their products they were selling and though the products themselves were nice and actually clever their attitude and setup were very unapproachable. Im sorry let me rephrase that: Of the two guys at that table their was a bald gentleman that was really nice and actually was the seller of the two. Whenever he was at the table he was def. making the sells and chatting it up with the people. The other guy with his weird mustache was very distant and acted like money was the only thing on his mind. He even got mad at us on the first day of the show and got up and started rearranging his table to make it look nicer and said our stuff was "blocking" peoples views of seeing theirs. We ignored it and on Saturday morning after asking Thom if we could move our table down away from theirs some, removed ourselves from them so they wouldnt have any more "issues".

The show itself was insane! We had more foot traffic in the spot we were in this year compared to the placement we were in last. Tons of people loved the new pieces and as always, my versions of the turtles I always make seem to be the biggest sellers. I did a lot more sketch commissions this year as a pose to last which was good and this year also debuted the preview edition of the first 22 pages of the BLOODY OLDE ENGLUND graphic novel. Bobby and I agreed early on that we would be raffling off the original double page from the book on Sunday afternoon. If anyone purchased a sketch or a copy of the preview they would get a ticket. We ended up selling 17 copies of the book! And on Sunday we were shocked to see that almost all 17 people plus tons more stood around at our booth waiting to see who would win the artwork. The piece went to a lucky girl named: Chelsey. You could tell that she was very happy to have won the artwork.

By Monday, as usual, the show started to slowly come to an end. The crowds died off around three pm due to artist alley closing around that time and after closing down and putting our stuff back in the car we got our first and only chance to look in the dealers rooms. After we left it started to rain pretty bad and we later learned that their were some tornado warnings in the area. Thankfully they passed long before we got outside. Nikki and I were exhausted and we went to eat and called it a day really early that night.

Over all DragonCon this year was AMAZING! We had an awesome time meeting so many new people and seeing tons of other familiar faces. Special thanx to everyone that stopped by the table to buy something, or just say hi. Shout outs to Brian and Kari, Trevor and Ashley, James Burns, Bobby Nash, Michael Gordon, Daniel Gorman!

I guess would be the name of this piece. Not really sure of the characters name. Tried something a little different this time. Just did clean lines. No shadowing. My gf seems to like this style a lot and lately she's been right on a few things. Thoughts?

So here it is the preview cover of the BLOODY OLDE ENGLUND book! I'll be doing quick werewolf sketches on the covers for those that purchase the book at DragonCon!

Not to mention the fact that every person that buys a copy of the book or a limited B.O.E print gets a raffle ticket for a chance to win an original werewolf double-page that I'll be giving away at the show on Sunday afternoon!

TWENTY-TWO - FINAL PAGE TO PREVIEW

Yep. So here is page 22, which is also the final page to our preview edition of BLOODY OLDE ENGLUND. I will continue to post random updates on the progress of the book and even a few random panels from pages here and there, but this page pretty much ends the showing of full finished pages.

I've had a few people ask me lately, "It's interesting that I've been posting so many pages to the book, aren't I worried that if everyone can just see all the pages they won't want to purchase it?"

In a way, yes, that could be true, but at the same time. No.

BLOODY OLDE ENGLUND is a 66 page. graphic novel. Yes, everyone can or already have seen the first 22 pages, but they haven't read the book at all. Bobby and I have posted a few random pages with dialogue, but I feel if I can catch peoples interest enough to want to know what's happening in these pages, even though there isn't any words, then they'll buy the book whenever it DOES come out.

Also there's still 44 MORE pages that people still haven't seen. And honestly, all hell breaks loose only two pages after the preview edition ends. Tons and tons of werewolves and death, everywhere! I'd think that alone would be enough to make people want to come buy the book.

So, can it be hurtful having shown all these pages, yes, but in the long run I think everyone will agree, it's a good risk to take.

Here's page 18. I love this page so much. Originally in the script Bobby wrote it to where Joe, our hero, walks into the dark, empty, eerie house, hears a noise and turns around to find the cat jump out of the kitchen scarying Joe. I liked that idea and took it one step further having Joe hearing a noise, turn only to find the cat licking up the blood of his dead owner. People constantly comment on how creepy that panel is, but it never really hit me until I looked at it in color...
