HE-MAN - INKS...

I love He-man. Ive been a fan since I was a little boy. It wasnt until recent that I had gotten back into the character. Also, I heard that DC is releasing a brand-new series later this year. Pretty excited.

Here is the inks for the piece. Ive also posted the penciled version underneath again too to see the difference in how I work from my pencils to inks.

JAMES BURNS~

My buddy, James Burns, asked to ink some of my artwork I might have lying around so I gave him the Avengers piece not only b/c that was the newest thing I had, but b/c his style is very Jack Kirby influenced. Yesterday he blew me away with not only inking it, but coloring it too. I was amazed and had to share what he did! I'll be posting the inks for mine on Wednesday and then my colored version Thursday, stay tuned and enjoy!

Click on his name (up above) to head over to his site and see all the amazing work he does!

AVENGERS - PENCILS

Ive completed the pencils for the AVENGERS piece. I've never tried to draw a whole team of characters all on one page before and I must say, it was def. a challenge, but after stepping back and looking at it, I was extremely surprised and proud of myself. Didnt know I had it in me. Much respect goes out to the artists that draw team books on a monthly basis. I dont know how you do it.

Anywho, the inked version will be posted later in the week, followed by the colored piece.

Until then, ENJOY>

THE MONSTER IN THE LAGOON...

Possibly a work-in-title name for the book, thanks to a recent commission for my version of the Creature From The Black Lagoon has sparked my inner desire to create a book involving the classic monster. I'll notify with complete details once I have the story flushed out and the book in progress.

FLASHBACK TUESDAY - SEVEN

The year was 2003, I was 20 years old and heading down to MegaCon in Orlando, FL. I had attended the convention the previous year and noticed Dark Horse Comics had a booth there. So with them in mind going down there again, I decided to try and put together a three page submission I re-drew from an issue of Alien vs. Predator. I spent days working on the pages and was extremely excited and nervous about showing them off.

Needless to say, when I got to the show. Dark Horse didnt have a booth that year. I was so crushed. Honestly, I dont think they've setup at the convention ever since. No problem though, I look back at these pages and see some good things about them, but mainly cringe when I look at the characters anatomy and a few of the panel layouts and perspective. Might actually be a good idea to possibly re-draw these pages again and send off a submission...

You never know...

HE-MAN PENCILS...

I went over to my parents house a few weeks back and found some re-issued replicas of He-man and Skeletor that I bought back in 2000 at a Wal-mart. I think they were anniversary editions and still in excellent conditions I may add.

Anywho, I brought them back to my place and have been on this He-man kick ever since. So I got inspired and decided to draw the big guy himself. Below are the pencils. I'll be posting the inked version soon, followed by the colored version. I'll announce when the print is available off of my online store shortly there after. This may lead into a Skeletor print too... maybe...

Until then,

FLASHBACK TUESDAY - SIX

Hello again, this time we venture back to a piece from a comic book I created in my high school days called: STAR DREAMER. The story revolves around the protector of a dimension that loses to a sorceror determined to rule all dimensions including ours, but a young man will be the only thing to stand in his way.

This page is of the old protector, Capulet. Its a splash page from the third issue. I was a senior in high school when I was working on this comic. Artists like Frank Miller, Ted Mckeever, Kevin Eastman, Jason Shawn Alexander, Frank Teran, and Bill Sienkiewicz, shaped my technic and at the time were my biggest influences due to their gritty styles.

I graduated in May of 2001. I believe I finished and self-published this book in late 2000. I was 18 yrs. old. Maybe one day I'll publish some other pages from the books. Until then,

FLASHBACK TUESDAY: FIVE

So as far back as I can remember I have always been making my own little comic books. On occasion I would draw a picture of Wolverine or Batman, but the second I got the comic book fever I would always make and create my own comics. Around the time I was a freshmen in high school I learned about comic shows. By the time I was a sophmore I had started setting up and trying to sell my own little comics I made by xeroxing down at the local Office Depot. One of the first books I created was a comic that for me, paid homage to my eternal obsession with the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. I decided to make a character that not only would have the same attitude as Raphael, but also just as crazy of a name too. I called it: BOUNTY BULL FROG.

Over the years while flipping back through old artwork I always look back at the mini-comic I made for him (it wasnt very long, maybe ten pages or so) and always say to myself, how can you bring this character back? Needless to say, I think I found a way. Possibly keep an eye out for something about him in the distant future...

BOUNTY BULL FROG #1 was published August of 1999. I was thirteen years old...

FLASHBACK TUESDAY - FOUR

Hello all, and welcome again to another Flashback Tuesday. This weeks picture is from one of my all-time favorite video games for the Playstation 1: NIGHTMARE CREATURES 2! The piece is a pin-up of Wallace, the main character of the game that breaks out of an insane asylum to stop a mad man who has unleashed hordes of zombies and monsters on London and Paris in 1934.

I drew this piece on 11x17 inch paper back in 2000. I was probably in the eleventh grade. Back then I was obsessed with using ink splatter effects with a tooth brush. The game influenced most of my artwork and comic book ideas back then, probably because of the dark and grit of the game. That and destroying all the monsters was pretty cool!
